Bio-Mi participated in the roundtable “Opportunities for Bio-based Industries in The Republic of Croatia’, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture in Croatia on 4 July 2019. The meeting included participation from EU officials, the BBI JU (Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking) and private actors from Croatia’s burgeoning bioeconomy sector.

Moreover, the representatives of the World Bank, the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) took part in a field visit to the site of the BIC member, the Bio Eco Energy Company (BEECO), that has a 25 hectares nursery plantation of ex-vitro seedlings of Miscanthus giganteus.

Filip Miketa, CEO of Bio-Mi, gave a presentation on the company’s main activities and opportunities for the development of bio-based industries in Croatia. Bio-Mi has started with the production of innovative thermoplastic bio-based and biodegradable materials and compounds, first of such kind in this part of Europe. The company implements processes at different TRL (Technology Readiness Level, 3 – 9), ranging from synthesis and polymerization, compounding and blending, downstream processing to the production of market-ready products. Our goal is to create a first biorefinery in this in this part of Europe, establish new Croatian value chains and enhance bioeconomy in Croatia and the region. He also pointed out that being a full BIC member, offered many opportunities to work with large Industry representatives, SMEs, research and technology organizations and universities around Europe and beyond.

Here are the main benefits of our participation in the EU R&D and Innovation programmes:

  • Internationalization of our business activities;
  • Confirmation of excellence and competitiveness;
  • Chance to work with some of the best with large Industry representatives, research and technology organizations and universities;
  • Opportunity to share expertise and know-how;
  • Opportunity for us to implement new technologies and processes which are then used for obtaining new products with high-added value;
  • Building Bio-Mi portfolio of IP (patents, industrial secrets and know-how);
  • Easier market deployment on domestic and EU market;
