The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) applauds the EU Council’s decision to adopt the regulation establishing nine Joint Undertakings under Horizon Europe, including Circular Bio-based Europe (CBE JU). The CBE JU builds on the achievements of the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU).
“United with our European Commission partners, BIC remains committed to building on the successes of the BBI partnership and contributing to the EU’s transformation into an innovative, sustainable and competitive society”, says Mat Quaedvlieg, BIC Chairman and VP Strategic Business Projects, SAPPI.
The decision by the Council demonstrates the importance of the CBE partnership for achieving the European Green Deal in EU Member States and regions. CBE JU will provide opportunities to accelerate bio-based innovation, keep and attract bio-based investments in Europe while enhancing the bioeconomy’s sustainability credentials.
The CBE JU is now set to be established before end 2021, with the first call for proposals launched by the end of the first quarter 2022.
