The kick-off meeting of the ECOAT project took place in Pisa, Italy, between 20 and 22 May 2019. The meeting gathered all 17 project partners, coordinated by the National Interuniversity Consortium of Materials Science and Technology (INSTM), the largest organization in Italy in the field of research of advanced materials and technologies. The objective of the meeting was to bring together all beneficiaries and provide a better insight into their project roles.

The objective of the ECOAT project is to select and extract functionalizing molecules from available, low valorised biomass such as tomato, legumes, sunflower etc. and develop new bio-based coating materials in order to meet new crequirements in packaging of food, electronics, consumer goods, etc. Bio-mi is a work package 6 leader (WP6) that will be responsible for scaling up and validation of coatings on plastic substrates.

The consortium warmly welcomed Ms. Ana Ruiz, a project officer for the European Commission, who introduced rules and principle guidelines mandatory for a successful realization of the project’s objectives.

Looking forward to a work ahead!
